Reconnecting With You Inner Power Through Adversity

Lessons From A 10-Day Power Outage

Life has a funny way of teaching us profound lessons through everyday experiences. Recently, I went through something that reminded me of the importance of staying connected to my inner power. In Ireland, where I live, we were hit by a massive storm that left us without electricity for 10 days straight—and on many other occasions over the winter due to other storms. At first, it felt like a minor inconvenience, but as the days dragged on, the lack of power began to take its toll.

No electricity meant no heat, no hot water, no lights, and no way to charge devices. It threw our daily routines into chaos. Simple tasks became monumental challenges. The discomfort made us grumble, and feel completely out of sync. It was as if the storm outside had mirrored itself inside our home—disrupting our peace, our focus, and our connection to one another.

But here’s the thing: just as the loss of external power disrupted our lives, losing touch with our inner power can have the same effect. When we’re not standing in our power, we feel imbalanced, uninspired, and aimless. We drift through our days without purpose, reacting to life instead of intentionally creating it. And just like a power outage, it leaves us vulnerable to the storms of life—whether they’re external challenges or internal struggles.

So, how do we stay connected to our inner power, no matter what storms rage around us? Here are three ways to reconnect and stay grounded:

1. Practice Presence: Ground Yourself in the Now

When the power went out, we noticed how much we rely on distractions—phones, TV, and endless to-do lists—this avoids us being fully present. Without those distractions, we become forced to sit with ourselves, and that is uncomfortable at first. But over time, you can begin to appreciate the stillness.

Your inner power is always accessible in the present moment. When you feel disconnected, take a few minutes to ground yourself. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and focus on the sensations in your body. Feel your feet on the ground. Notice the rhythm of your breath. This simple practice can help you reconnect with your inner strength and calm the chaos around you.

2. Reconnect with Your Purpose: What Lights You Up?

During the power outage, I realized how much I took for granted the things that brought me joy—like writing, watch good TV series & films, a hot bath, having a good meal with my family around me, or even just having a warm cup of tea. Without those things, I felt uninspired and lost.

Your inner power is closely tied to your sense of purpose. Ask yourself: What lights you up? What makes you feel alive? Whether it’s a creative hobby, helping others, or pursuing a passion project, reconnecting with what matters most to you can reignite your inner fire. When you’re aligned with your purpose, external challenges feel less overwhelming because you’re rooted in something greater.

3. Cultivate Resilience: Embrace the Storms

The storms in Ireland taught me that resilience isn’t about avoiding discomfort—it’s about finding strength within it. When the power goes out, we have to adapt. We light candles, cook on a camping stove, and bundle up in layers. It's not ideal, but we get through it together.

Similarly, life’s storms are inevitable, but your inner power lies in how you respond to them. Instead of resisting challenges, try to see them as opportunities for growth. Ask yourself: What can I learn from this? How can I grow stronger? By embracing the storms, you build resilience and deepen your connection to your inner power.

Final Thoughts

The 10-day power outage was a powerful reminder of how much we rely on external sources of energy—and how easily they can be taken away. But our inner power is different. It’s always there, waiting for us to tap into it. By practicing presence, reconnecting with your purpose, and cultivating resilience, you can stay grounded in your power, no matter what storms life throws your way.

So, the next time you feel disconnected or off-balance, remember: just like a storm, it’s temporary. Your inner power is your greatest source of strength, and it’s always within reach.

Stay strong, stay grounded, and keep shining your light—even in the darkest of times.

With love
